Cleaning up after Water Intrusion.

The intrusion of water into your place of business can result in mold growth. Water intrusions can result from storm damage, plumbing or equipment failures, long-standing leaks, and poor humidity control.

When water intrusions are not addressed right away, the resulting damage can present an increased risk of harmful mold growth.  Some amount of mold spores are normally present in most environments.  If the humidity and moisture levels in a water-damaged business environment are not promptly returned to normal, mold spores may grow and multiply.  Organic materials found inside a building, such as wood, paper, drywall, and insulation, provide food sources for mold to flourish.  Excessive mold growth can lead to the business having indoor environmental conditions that pose a health threat.

Technicians Cleaning #likeitneverevenhappened

Following a fire or water loss in your home or office, there could lingering odors in the air. The technicians at SERVPRO of Carrollton may utilize deodorizers as odor treatments; but if something more powerful is needed, we have specialty deodorization equipment to eliminate the odors.

Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers will atomize liquid deodorizing agents, producing a fine mist that easily penetrates sites where odor-causing residues accumulate. The ULV Fogger can also be used to apply fungicides and disinfectants. If needed, the ULV Fogger can also be used to inject the fungicides and disinfectants into wall cavities and other difficult-to-access areas.

Thermal Foggers dispense solvent-based products in large volume, dense fogs suitable for confined areas. The fog consists of tiny particles of deodorant solution that pair with and neutralize odor-causing particles.

Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Carrollton provides businesses with the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned defensive pathogen cleaning program so employees, customers, and the community can stay safe and healthy.

Recent events in 2020 have caused a paradigm shift in people’s understanding of what it means to be clean.

  • December 31, 2019 - The WHO reported to the world the first cases of coronavirus, alerting nations around the world to a possible large-scale outbreak of the disease.
  • January 21, 2020 - The United States reported the first case of COVID-19 within its borders.
  • March 11, 2020 - The WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak to be an international pandemic.
  • March 13, 2020 - The United States issued a statement declaring the spread of COVID-19 to be a national emergency.
  • During the following months, the nation went on lockdown.

The general population embraced social distancing, sheltering in place, and remote working. Masks and gloves became a part of the American work uniform. Sneeze guards sprang up everywhere overnight. Hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, alcohol, and household cleaners disappeared from store shelves along with toilet paper and paper towels. Handwashing became the national pastime. Meanwhile, baseball and other sports at every level reduced schedules or canceled their seasons altogether.

National chain stores assigned workers to meticulously wipe down shopping carts while reducing the hours of operation to allow for a nightly deep clean. Occupancy restrictions further limited economic activity. Some of America’s largest retailers suspended return policies until further notice. “Drive-thru” and “carry-out” replaced “dine-in” as the new normal at many of the more than one million restaurants across the United States.

During this economic turmoil and social upheaval, SERVPRO ushered in a new standard of cleanliness to meet the disinfecting and sanitizing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned is a unique defensive pathogenic cleaning program aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the community through daily contact. Cleaning the businesses, stores, factories, schools, daycares, nursing homes, churches, and other locations that people frequent makes the community safer and healthier. Those vulnerable individuals who have extenuating medical or health conditions that put them at greater risk to contract COVID-19 especially benefit.

As communities across this great land restart the engines of commerce, people have a new sense of what it means to be clean. The team of dedicated professionals at SERVPRO of Carrollton is striving to build confidence in communities through the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned program.

What Is the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned Program?

This proactive viral pathogen cleaning program far exceeds general janitorial cleaning standards and practices. A pathogen is a bacterium, virus, or other microorganisms that can cause disease. Clients can trust SERVPRO of Carrollton to bring together years of experience in biochemical spill remediation and decontamination to deliver the highest standard of safety, cleanliness, and health to the community and the places where people gather for work, play, shopping, school, and worship. The program is grounded in the 3 C’s: Consult, Clean, Certify.

Consult: Each business is unique. The SERVPRO professionals tailor a custom cleaning approach based on the distinctive needs of each business or facility. The company assigns each business a personal Cleaning Protocol Specialist who knows the business’s niche. The type of industry, business type, facility size, high-frequency touchpoints, foot traffic, and congestion points are the criteria that guide the formulation of the program.

Clean: Based on the custom-tailored plan, SERVPRO of Carrollton carries out an expert deep clean utilizing the proprietary EPA-Approved Hospital-Grade cleaning solutions. The skilled cleaning technicians adhere to the cleaning and decontamination standards established by the CDC.

Certify: A shield emblem prominently displayed on the business’s front window communicates the message that the facility is Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned. This sign, in conjunction with other digital emblems and collateral, represents the strong commitment to the safety and comfort of employees, customers, and the surrounding community.

Customers seeing the Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned shield can enter the store, restaurant, office, or other building with confidence because the top choice in the cleanup and restoration industry has deep cleaned and sanitized the facility.

As a locally owned and operated business, SERVPRO of Carrollton is made up of a team of professionals who know how to serve the community because they are a part of the community. Therefore, SERVPRO of Carrollton has a vested interest in helping to keep the local community safe and clean.

The Importance of Odor Removal When Preparing a Home to Receive Renters

10/12/2020 (Permalink)

Here to Help - SERVPRO information image Here to Help

Summary: SERVPRO of Carrollton advises investors on how to remove household odors and repair property damage to prepare a rental property to receive tenants.

As experts in odor removal and deodorization, the team at SERVPRO of Carrollton is trained to identify and eliminate offensive odors. The source of the odors can come from both inside and outside a structure. Mitigating strong odors requires special training, professional-grade cleaning solutions, and advanced equipment. Technicians are IICRC trained in the proper removal of odors. Masking and other shortcuts fail when the odor problem is serious or persistent.

Realtor.com, a national realty advisory company, offers real estate investors and private homeowners tips to prepare a property for rental. Property clean up, property damage restoration, and odor removal are crucial when preparing a property to receive tenants. Following these tips can help investors properly prepare a property to receive a renter.

Tip #1: Conduct a thorough home inspection.

Identify and repair major problems, which may include roof leaks, sagging or clogged gutters, driveway cracks, leaky faucets or pipes, electrical outlets, and burnt-out light bulbs. In addition, inspect floors to make sure they are structurally solid. Current and previous water damage may need the services of a water, fire, smoke, or sewage damage restoration professional. The inspection may turn up mold issues that need remediation. Taking care of these issues while the home is unoccupied can simplify the damage restoration process.

Tip #2: Make the home safe.

Replace worn locks and door hardware that might compromise security. Smoke detectors should be functioning properly. The kitchen and each floor of the home should be equipped with a fire extinguisher.

Tip #3: Inspect appliances and make sure they are clean and in good working order.

Appliances should be clean, safe, and in good operating order. Renting a home with appliances may mean the rent can be increased, but faulty appliances that require frequent repairs or maintenance can eat up this extra income.

Tip #4: Clean up and remove odors.

Potential tenants are turned off by a dirty, unsanitary, and odor-ridden rental property. Here is a checklist of what needs to be cleaned. Choose safe solutions appropriate for the surfaces and applications for which they will be used. The aim is to clean, sanitize, disinfect, and deodorize.

  • Wipe down walls, baseboards, and molding around doors and windows.
  • Clean windows, blinds, shades, drapes, and curtains.
  • Clean toilets, sinks, showers, bathtubs, including hardware.
  • Mop and disinfect floors in the kitchen, bathroom, and other rooms that do not have carpeting.
  • Vacuum, shampoo, disinfect, and deodorize the carpets to kill germs, remove stains, and eliminate odors.
  • Repaint walls with a neutral color to make the rooms seem cleaner and brighter. A primer coat may be needed to ensure that streaks, stains, and odors are thoroughly covered.

Be careful when dealing with serious and persistent odors.

More needs to be said about tobacco, smoke, soot, and pet odors. Removing tobacco odor requires removing nicotine that may coat every surface of the property. When wiping the surfaces, use a safe, strong cleaner approved for residential use. Properly ventilate the house to avoid ingesting the fumes, which can irritate the skin, eyes, nose, and mouth. Nicotine poisoning can occur if commercial-grade gloves are not worn. Painting the entire home with a stain and odor-blocking primer may be required to fully cover both stains and residual odor from the tobacco smoke.

Similar or even more stringent precautions may need to be taken when cleaning and deodorizing the rental property for smoke and soot problems. Soot is a toxic chemical substance that should not be ingested or come in contact with the skin, eyes, nose, or mouth. The general cleaning strategies described above should remedy slight to moderate pet odors. However, when the pet odors are serious and persistent, stronger measures may be needed to resolve the odor issues. The odor technicians at SERVPRO of Carrollton are specially trained and equipped to handle the toughest odors in a safe, fast, and efficient manner.

The property damage restoration specialists at SERVPRO of Carrollton, TX, have the training and equipment to identify and eliminate offensive odors. By using surface-penetrating odor removal products, technicians can neutralize an unpleasant odor thoroughly. The science of identifying and eliminating odors requires skill, knowledge, and advanced technology.
